Everyone got burnt out of Pokemon between the annual movies, general media oversaturation, GS not having that same magic spark as RGB, the anime going to shit, videogames still being for young children when the PS2 was just on the horizon and ready to redefine that concept for everyone that wasn't a Nintendo kiddie, Yu-Gi-Oh having a greater appeal due to being for a somewhat older audience, Electric Soldier Porygon controversy news circulating into the west, Star Wars hitting the scene all over again with the prequels, and countless other reasons that all culminated into people not giving a shit about Pokemon for the next decade or so until XY and GO came around.
