Alright, I fucked up bad. I left my Altaria in on an sealio thinking that I could one shot it. I did not in fact one shot it, but it one shot me. Before I challenge the league, I would like to have a team of six. Who should I bring out of the box? I'm thinking about adding Dusclops to the team for Will-O-Wisp Support, but I do not know. Also, disregard Swampert. I want to keep Swampert around for Emerald.

Continuing my Hacklocke Gauntlet, FR Omega time.
Some losses against the gym leaders but so far so good. Elekid is the best starter for FRO but since Electivire is champed, Jynx it is.
While some encounters were bad, volt absorb Chinchou is always good.

you can never go wrong with Dusclops. Camerupt is also a good mon for RS since it counters some of Steven's mons. Linoone is not a bad mon at all for the league, with the right set up it can sweep Phoebe.

start over. I've been using an emulator to speed through the game, so this really isn't that hard of a loss. For Sapphire, I think I have a physical cartridge lying around somewhere, so I will switch over to using that to see if it is bearable playing the physical games or my patience has degraded to the point where I can only play with speed.

Fun fact: X/Y are the only mainline games to not sell a poketoy at all which means there is no way to escape shadow tag or arena trap save for run away ins't that just neat

Mudsdale and Farfetch'd were surprisingly great for me. I dont consider Mudsdale a shitmon, however it was the mvp of my UM run on my recent autismlocke while having a pretty stacked team(that included Tyranitar and Garchomp). Farfetch'd ripped through Fire Red, and swept Agatha in the e4. Another surprises:

I've only ever done 2 nuzlocks, a failed gen5 (I think it was White?) from years ago, and the one I've been chipping away at for a few weeks now on Sun. SUPER baby-mode because reasons, and also boxing instead of releasing because again, super baby. Also, if I redo this, I'm going to force release because I want to use Pokepelego and I think that's a fair trade.

I got Pokerus.

I got Pokerus, and didn't even realize it until I had a battle where I need to heal a status, and wait THAT'S NOT POISON!

Started a Ruby run and forgot how the challenge works and didn't catch anything in a bunch of places in the early game. My team ended up becoming very Psychic heavy, I'm not mad at it though.
Got fucked over in XD and had very little of my party left so I abandoned the run because the alternative was to grind a new team or just start over.

I had a randomized Platinum run with a Skitty. Against Roark, Skitty was able to Copycat Double Team, and when a Bayleef came out I somehow managed to win by copying Poison Powder.

Also, Dustox and Beautifly are genuinely good against Brawly and Gardenia.

quagsire isn't shit but it's not great either, but it was the mpv of my diamond run. i've also had a sub punch set on bibarel that worked super well.

Did it and surprisingly Solrock was once more the MVP!
Funnily the first two gave me much more trouble than the last three.
Soleil nearly soloed Glacia and Drake, Cosmic Power + Confusion + Rock Slide is a dangerous Combo, if this was gen6 and I had Will-o-Wisp to take advantage of it'd be even better! Electrode was also very useful, it hit 2/5 Zap Cannons which was great and his Light Screen and Spark put in great work too.
Hariyama was way too frail even after I boosted his defences, Wailord had less Defences in total but his huge HP made up for it... might be that I rolled a shit Makuhita. Sceptile is the worst starter, he just doesn't have any decent level up moves or any support, all he can do is hit hard with Leaf Blade and that's about it.
Don't sleep on Solrock, he's quite a beast.

In a Nuzlocke Dustox is like a better Ledian, both are defensive pokemon with screens support, but Dustox gets a good stab in Sludge Bomb, as well as Toxic and Moonlight in lieu of Reflect. Train one in HP and Special Defence and it can pretty much wall any non-super effective special attacker and stall them to death, very nice against Ludicolo and Milotic in Emerald.

5 Gyms in and I have suffered some major losses. I thought I could sweep Flannery's Gym with my Swords Dance Zangoose, but due to its Bold Nature and Torkoal's fuckhuge defense, Torkoal lives with a sliver of HP and one shots it with a sun boosted Overheat. I need an opinion on some rule breaking.
In ultra moon you can't catch anything in a nuzlocke until after the trainer school since its all route 1 (even the trainer school) and you get your starter on route 1.
The problem is the final trainer in the trainer school has a starter with a type advantage to yours and its fairly high leveled.
I was wondering if I should count the trainer school as a new area or pray for crits to go my way on that fight.

I always count the starter to be gained in the starting town, sounds like in USUM it's also very much recommended. If you don't want to do that then just don't care where you got your starter since you can't do a nuzlocke without getting it.

QoA: There's a reason why i strongly believe that there are only 2 Pokemon not worth using in game (Unown and Smeargle) but even them CAN be used if one try hard enough.
Big part of Nuzlockes is luck - You'll get poor encounters, your plan A, B and C will die and you'll be left with Ledian, Sentret and Goldeen as your team and you'll need to figure out how to survive long enough to catch something new, possibly valuable. And you'll bound with these little fuckers and find that screens from Ledian or QA from Furret are in fact pretty valuable options when you're in the corner. That's part of the fun in Nuzlockes, i think.

Personally i count Route 1, Trainer School and The Beach where Kukui's house is as three, separate locations. They all have very distinct encounters and "feel" to them, making it imho very logical separation.

You have small village route, school's backyard and beach covered in wild bushes. They are very distinct places.

A lot of grind done for Koga, Silph Co and Sabrina.
Unfortunately lost my only Steel type before Koga. Lost two encounters in a row on routes 12 & 13. After some grind, the fight with Koga went smoothly. The fight against Giovanni on Silph Co was also fine, thief a Choice Band from it. The Sabrina fight was iffy. Logan oneshot 3 of Sabrina mons, and after Blonde killing Gengar, her own Jynx came out and I got parahaxed with body slam and unfortunately, after the switch, a crit Blizzard killed American the Kingdra. Unlucky. Anyway, time for Blaine prep.

After this game the Yellow Pikalocke I am so gonna go after 3rd game. Feeling burned out on Gen 1 and Gen 2 with all the grinding. My buddy was playing a vanilla adventure of Ruby and he plans on getting playing Gen 1 and 2 afterwards ( I just want him to build enough game knowledge so I can persuade him to do a beginners nuzlocke) I wanna guide him though it. However I barely remember Gen 3 since last nuzlocke was back in 2014 and my first time ever beating ( Emerald) that game.

Holy shit i actually did it, with dunsparce no less! this was probably the most stressful diantha ever been, with the only counters to her mons being frail as shit or dunsparce. it also didn't help that Vodka got both frozen and crit by blizzard 3 times in a row. what's a good challenge ruleset for someone who likes the perma-death concept of nuzlockes but not the lack of control over what I use. One of my first Nuzlockes, Emerald, and the first one where I turned Shift off, I got a Mighteyena. Total trash, I think it was fucking Bold Mighteyena or something. But, the stubborn bastard put Intimidate to fucking work the entire run, I don't think it ever actually killed anything important, but I'm confidant in saying it saved a lot of other pokemon by getting switched in and reducing stats. Made it to the Hall of Fame.

Similar case in a Platinum nuzlocke with an Onix. Again, horrible pokemon, I think I maybe Bind/Dig stalled something at one point, not because I needed to but because I felt like he deserved it, but goddamn is onix a hard motherfucker. He gave me so many early game fights for fucking free, just tanking, debuffing, allowing heals, sneaky pebbles, pivoting, fucking everything you could ask for, shy of Intimidate. He kept it up until he got killed by Giga Drain on a Golbat during the Double Battle at the Spear Pillar. It wasn't a huge loss, but, still, I felt it.

You could also add a reroll to each route; you can get a redo to each route, still not guaranteeing anything, but at least increasing your odds of getting something you like.

You can also invent your own clauses, like a veto, or a same type clause or some shit if you want.
I have two I use. First is the "Gotta have it" clause, I only employ when doing a Nuzlocke of a new game or hack with fakemon. The first time I see a pokemon, I can declare that one as my Gotta Have It, and, should I ever encounter it, or a pokemon I suspect evolves into it, I can catch it regardless of the normal rules.
Second is the Aggron Clause. I like Aggron, it's my favorite pokemon, so if I ever get the chance, I get to go outside the normal encounter rules to catch a member of the family once.
Worth noting for both, in either case, if the pokemon just happens to be the first encounter on a route or something, it still counts as the encounter for that area, too.

Logan was a beast against the e4. Sweeping Lorelei by himself and taking down half of Agatha's team.
Bruno was easily dealt and, while Lance tried really hard to hax me with his Aerodactyl, Boggers ate up all his Rock Slides and one shot it with Surf.
The only tough situation was banking on a non-crit meteor mash from Blue's Metagross against Parthurnax. The gamble payed off and the last two of Blue's team members fell against Parthurnax.
Blonde was the MVP of the run, hitting like a truck and tanking a lot of Special threats.
Even tho my rules state that the next game is Sacred Gold, I really want to do an Emerald hack next. Any suggestions? (no Kaizo)

Been a while since I've done a nuzlocke, but I was feeling up for doing a wedlocke of Emerald, since the last few locke challenges I did were wedlockes (pretty much the same as a normal Nulocke, but all my mons are paired to a mon of the opposite gender, and I can only swap between mons that are linked to each other in battle).
Just got to Rustboro, going to challenge the gym after grinding a bit more. I thought things were starting out rough when I lost my first encounter to a crit, but then I lucked out and was able to pair my treecko with a wingull- which seems like a really strong pairing.
It's gonna suck training up nincada+slakoth, I'll probably wait until after the gym fight, which hopefully shouldn't be an issue.

Lost my Dustox and Numel, but I got a nice link of Golbat+Spoink, and Wingull evolved, and swept Maxie without any problems. Hopefully Pelliper can work its magic for Flannery as well, just have to clear the gym first

Team is great with a lot of options in the bag. Early Hitmontop is great and Doduo learns Trio Attack really early (and it has 100BP on this hack) so it just swept Brawly. Roxanne was kinda tricky but still nothing difficult. Lost a mon to the twin double battle before Rustboro and could potentially wipe to them, got lucky with only losing Spinarak.

okay, i tried it again and managed to dodge both trainers, I'll just disregard the fights I had with them since it was obviously a mistake by the hacker of them being there and will press on with Expert Emerald.
Some tough loses so far. Wattson fight was close but managed beat the old man only losing Arbok. Maxie fight was hard as well since Camerupt straight oneshot Dugtrio with Eruption, even tho it was at 40% health. The flannery fight was the worse offender tho. A double battle with gen3 drought with no way to change the weather. I didnt know it was a double battle tho, which made the fight a lot harder. Unfortunately 2 crits took down Seaking and Magmar, and Dodrio couldnt survive a sunny boosted flamethrower from Flareon. Anyway, we emerge victorious and with a decent team left, but a poor box. I can only hope daddy Norman doesnt punish us too much.

So I have beaten Sabrina,Blaine,Giovanni and Gary I have made sure Cheese particiapted or did defeated a Gym Leader's pokemon like the rules have stated. Now I am onward to Victory Road with a possible detour to the Power Plant for Thunderbolt.

With that I have lost a Hard Hitter of my squad, which messed me up and that was Cashew. She was Cheese's girl and she shall be missed. So what happened was earlier in the fight I sent out Cheese to deal with Blaine's Ninetails. With a set up Light Screen we easliy dispatched Ninetails with a Thunder followed by a Thunderbolt. Rapidash weakened my Cashew with fire spins and fireblast with dropped his Rapidash with Earthquake. Next is Arcanine. Arcanine went first and put Cashew in the yellow by Fire Blast ( thats a strong dog)
I have forgotten that Light screen was out long over and so Earthquake but Arcanine was first hits another Fire Blast and now Cashew was roasted.

IMO EV training in non competitive/difficulty hacks is highly unnecessary since a well balanced and leveled team should be able to deal with anything in any official Pokémon game. I know others here sometimes do but it’s an unnecessary grind to me. It’s never necessary but think of it as a safety net to maximize your chances.

Expert Emerald is done. The members were tough battles but the champion was the closest one. Tyranitar managed to DDance twice, but Ticket was able to tank an Earthquake and KO with Brick Break. No deaths. Broken the Metagross MVP of the run, altho Ticket was clutch in a lot of moments.

suicune is pretty bulky but doesnt hit that hard. Of course it has calm mind and can set up. One of the few legendaries I dont mind using it.
Fantina in PT is a big threat cause of the early Mismagius. Keep going tho, you still have a Gyarados and a possible Staraptor. Watch out for electric types tho.

well I got good news and some really bad news about my run
the good news is that I got super lucky with the mons I got and falkner was a joke because of his team consisted of just a munchlax and buneary
the really bad news is the game was so unstable that the run is basically is dead because it can't stop freezing
I guess randomizing so much shit killed the game and not to mention it had the fastest text possible option too, welp that shows how long it took before it became a dead run
better luck next time I guess

That's a bummer. It seems HGSS are very finicky in general. Everyone I have seen play the game on emulator has run into sprite glitching and crashes eventually. Heck, I've had the game crash on an actual cart before.

May shouldn't have been a problem, but she got two crit kills, and here I am down to two. Luigi Paralyzed grovyle, but died to a pursuit, and Sorin had it confused and was paraflinching it, but it got a crit quick attack on him when it had a tiny red sliver left.

Seems like you need to grind more in general. Wattson is pretty much free with Marshtomp but from your levels I'm guessing you went into the fight too low

Also, I was looking up Expert Emerald but the latest release I see is 1.5 from 2016... is there something I'm missing.
