Post lore thats unimaginative, stupid or contrived (pokedex, in-game books, npcs)

Why are the XY legends the only ones with that power ? Dont ask. Why can mons that dont evolve by stone mega evolve? Dont ask. What do lifeforce/death powers have to do with max potential? Dont ask. Why can only a small portion of mons do it? Dont ask. If theyre based on evo stones, why dont water megas share the same stones? Dont ask.

I don't remember mega evolution being tied specifically to Xerneas or Yveltal, just that those two are usable as a power source in general and Team Flare wanted to use them for the ultimate weapon.

Because that has nothing to do with mega evolution

It's been clarified that ALL Pokemon in their final stage have the potential to mega evolve; it's just that what we have are the ones that have been currently discovered and thus are the ones that we know of.

They're not related to water stones or fire stones or whatever

Because each stone triggers it's unique effect with a specific Pokemon. A Swampertite will only bring out the potential of a Swampert and do nothing in the hands of a Gyarados, and vice-versa. This is why there are undiscovered Mega Evolutions; because those specific stones haven't been found yet.

Yes there are holes in the mechanic and it's lore (the friendship shit is dumb when it doesn't even rely on it, and in fact disables all friendship bonuses while active) but that's not one of them.

Imagine how much of a mess competitive would be at that point. Mega-Toxapex would be the core of literally every team that uses defensive Pokémon and Mega-Heatran would still be the best stall-breaker to use against it, and Landorus-T would finally drop a tier (to UUBL), but still have viability in OU as the same team glue it’s always been. But I mean hey, Flygon finally gets a mega and so that makes up for it.

Don't be silly. The possibly for every Pokemon to have a Mega Evolution exists sure but you and I both know damn well they're never gonna bother to actually put in the leg work to do it. At best they'll just bring back the old ones and leave it at that.

Knowing Game Freak, they'd probably make Mega-Pex focus entirely on Merciless (the ability that it was meant to be designed around and is still it's signature ability a gen later), and the lack of regenerator and passive recovery would gimp it as a wall.

I guarantee you if Mega Pex ever got made it'd still be shelved in favor of it's cancerous normal form.
