After Gen 1, the starters fell in to a bit of a decline for me. There are some good ones, of course, but generally, none were as amazing as the original trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, the Gen 3 group is as good if not better than 1, they just didn’t have that “amazing factor” as the first three Pokémon you see did. But... Then Gen 6 came around and honestly, every Gen has been pretty above average since.

For me, it’s

>Bulbasaur/Charmander
>Totodile
>Mudkip (also a candidate for best starter of all)
>Turtwig
>pass on Gen 5, honestly pass on almost the entire Unovadex.
>all three are great but I especially like Delphox for both being a cool old wizard and Red Card + Magician shenanigans
>Litten
>Grooky fits me more personally but I picked Scorbunny and would again

I like Sobble too though. I don’t like it as a Pokémon but I’m pretty sure it was inspired by the Sniper and Spy from TF2.

Whole Froakie line is great, I remember people speculating it would evolve in to a Benjamin Franklin frog, with the little bubble glasses and bald on top/white bubble hair in the back.

Torchic line was rightly shilled for being so great.

Generation 5 is sincerely a blight.

My taste is almost the same as yours fellow typhlosion king, just change frokie and oshawott with chikorita and treeko (sceptile is damn cool) and we would be the same
