Personally I found Gen 4’s Battle Frontier to be the most challenging but that’s not saying much.

PWT isn't challenging at all because it's just 3 battles with predictable teams and you don't need any kind of streak. The only reason people suck it off is because "WOAAAAAH I RECOGNIZE THAT CHARACTER"

I remember people bitching about the Battle Tree when SM came out, is there anything that sets it apart from your average Battle Tower expy? Aside from the Frontier Brain equivalents being named characters

Battle Tree isn't any harder than any other battle tower clone, except for the fact that the opponents actually use Megas and Z-moves unlike the Maison where no one used Megas.

Battle Tree didn’t use NFEs in the basic 21 streak, which made it more difficult than other 21 streaks but once you got to the Supers it evened out with the rest.

Mt Battle isn't that bad, I got through the battle mode in an evening to get Ho-Oh, and then the easier story mode version in about 4 hours to get the ribbons.

Not to mention Mt. Battle has no pokemon restrictions either, so you can just go in with Mewtwo and all other legendaries you want if you need the handicap, and the AI only brings out legendaries and pseudos in the last few battles.
