Double battles are faster.
Given GF's attitude of kids having low attention spans and just wanting to play forknife on their phones, hence all of the cut content, it makes sense that they'd choose the meta that's over the quickest.

I guess on cart because the turns take so long, but turns are also pretty long in singles on cart, too.

Doubles simply allow large Swiss best of 3 tournaments to finish in a reasonable timeframe.
