Around mid-game where, without spoilers, a character turns out to be a bad guy and takes you to a different dimension. Gameplay becomes a bit more challenging around there. Then it keeps getting harder with new battles like the Darkrai battle and the Zero Isle dungeons.

It depends what you're looking for. If you're a redditor who thinks "good" means action, open world and not randomly generated, then the answer is never, and this answer doesn't just apply to Explorers of Sky, but to PMD as a whole. If instead you already have a decent understanding of the mechanics and are looking for a challenge, hard dungeons are unlocked after the credits.

You're no different from the furfags you complain about because just like them you don't even know what mystery dungeon is. Even pokemon games alone have a decently active gameplay-focused/speedrunning community (or challenges, although that's more for the japanese side)

It doesn't really, but it depends on who you chose. It's easy to break PMD with moves that boost travel speed and especially those that hit the entire room.

I never liked the way these games work
Like 80% of the time you are fighting in corridors so your partner is useless unless it has one of a handful of moves that hit 2 tiles ahead
You could send them on their own but they would always get killed

I prefer the likes of SMT, or EO but i guess at that point it would be too similar to the main series

The games would surely benefit from wider corridors, but even as is, it's not so bad, there are moves items and iq skills that help making team members useful, and sending them on their own is very useful as well (if only you didn't have to manually switch through team every few turns to open the map...)

RTDX also introduced that one skill that makes them jump in front of an enemy when it's their turn to attack in a corridor. I haven't messed with it yet because I kind of found it annoying but it might just be that I'm not used to it yet
