Anyone else tired of how each game's plot since gen 3 is about some shitty myth or ancient story about a "Legendary" that never truly feels legendary? That crap is getting old.
We should go back to basics like gens 1-2. In fact, there shouldn't be any plot at all because it's always terrible and forced.

Most Pokemon games that try something different like to guide the player through every story beat with a lot of dialogue. I'd like something different too, but I'd also like Game Freak to get better writers first, or at least have their current ones learn how to trim the fat.

Yeah, uh, Gen 2 literally had the same shit.
Personally, Gen 4 did the best with actually trying to make the legends legendary with the lore and NPCs directly talking or referencing the creation myth.

But after that, Pokemon really grasped at straws and kept trying to 1-up it. Hense the bullshit with Ultra Wormholes and alternate dimensions.

idk if Gen 1's plot was really anything to write home about, a lot of it was just grabbing several macguffins in a row (silph scope, pokeflute, tea, ss anne ticket, etc) needed to progress
but you weren't even prompted to go get them or really directed at all, you just had to get them because the game wouldn't let you progress otherwise. there was no story at all really connecting all the unrelated crap you had to do

3 probably did it best plotwise, it made sense, had a clear sense of direction and purpose at each given moment, and didn't need to bore you with endless text dumps and exposition. Although it also had the most pants-on-head retarded villain teams with ridiculous motives. I guess 4 was alright but that was where it started to get really dialogue-heavy

People damn sure aren't playing Pokemon for its abstract gameplay, the only value in Pokemon's gameplay is using your imagination to imagine what things are "actually" like

No they don't, especially not Pokémon. Pokémon lives by its character designs (which means the Pokémon themselves) and its setting, not its plot.
