The first Pokémon they connected to anchors them to a type associated with it. For example, Diego encountered a wild yet jolly Nidoran that was friendly with it, and a while after he officially made it his first partner pokemon, he started connecting with physical ground and/or poison types.

I like to imagine a Scenario with a Brock Type character traveling with some zoomers.
He goes grocery shopping at the Pokemart after a few weeks of walking the routes and runs into an old friend running the counter. It's an awkward thing catching up, he's still out training trying to beat the Champion while she's moved on from exchanging the same six hundred dollars between the local Trainers.
She's got her eevee next to her, but her Clampearl is low energy enough to leave at home all day and she had to completely box her Loudred after an entirely expected noise complaint.
I imagine the guy's sub plot for the episode would be overthinking about growing old and settling down for a real job. But also worrying about how he'd feed and house some of his own pokemon

Fuuuuuck, I feel bad for those who got a grass type like venucucks

In that case it means I would have to min max even my first encounter, make my first pokemon a heatran so I can bond with all fire and steel types

I don't think you get to choose your first encounter. The Pokemon connects with you, not the other way around.

in my retarded fantasy i would catch two mons of my favorite species, breed them, and then hatch the egg, so i could raise it from an egg. i guess that kind of thing wouldn’t work for most steel types and some rock types though.
