I mean, I get management was playing switcharoo way into the season, but why the fuck did this sink badly? Tamers was at least decent.

Wow, that's... actually a good point.

I'm real upset how they played down the 02 at Digimon Tri. Tri was fine, mostly, but it's just a parade of 01 characters without "officially" passing the torch to 02.

the 02 kids had it easy, they could go home any time, digivolve easily, and their adventures were real time. i didnt really feel any dramatic tension neither, not that that was a bad thing

As a kid, I knew that there was a problem with Digimon. I never really liked Matt and Tai and Davis, these fucking awful goggle boys and emo boys that would always be able to get their mons or themselves (in frontier) while everybody else looked on as a slack-jawed retard. I'll give Ken and Takato a pass despite being in those archetypes because I thought they were more interesting, but my discontent reached it's boiling point in Frontier where most of the cast never got hybrid evolutions, and had to sit on the sidelines like retards to power up goggles boy and emo kid.
As far as season 02 goes, watching Angemon and Angewoman get nerfed is painful to watch, especially since MagnaAngemon and Seraphimon are fucking jobber losers.

The characters were generally just less interesting, TK was a bitch, Patamons new evolutions weren't cool, and Cody and Yolie looked like Chinese knockoff cheap replacement characters that never quite belonged. Even though it was a continuation of the original adventures, everything about this one was just worse. The stakes were lower too and the greatest thing about 02 was Wormmon.

Tri was so different and did its own thing that it didn't seem like it was a cheap Chinese knockoff of itself. Also the villains were all less cool.

It peaked during the Digimon Emperor plot. Everything up during that point felt natural and different enough compared to Adventure. After that, it felt like they were trying to rehash off of 01's success.

Maybe the Emperor should've gone on longer or he shouldn't have been redeemed.
