The fact he wanted to kill off the whole fucking thing at the "end" just fucking proves that, he was looking to further himself and his career, the suits wanted to sell the brand. Not saying he didn't do that, but given they turned around and made a female Mewtwo with a similar backstory to M1 Mewtwo also proves they didn't care to deal with his shit, till they explicitly needed to.
