I’ve decided I’m finally going to make a Nuzlocke comic. What do you guys look for in a Nuzlocke comic? Is there a version I should play? Is serious or comedic tone better, or a mix of both? What are the best Nuzlockes you’ve read? I’m currently leaning towards Y version simply because I’ve never seen it done before.
Also general Nuzlocke comic thread I guess.

Why do you say that? I’ve just always wanted an excuse to make a Pokémon comic and a Nuzlocke seems like the least autistic way to go about it. I won’t be doing it for views or likes or whatever, just to record a journey with some new bros.

I’m kinda torn between Y or RS remakes because those are the two I’ve played the least and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Gen 6 Nuzlocke comic.

I've always kind of wanted to do one of these myself. I have very, very fond memories of Y and have beaten it three times at this point (even though I can admit that, no, it's not that good of a game but I still had fun with it).

My Nuzlocke Run of that game is probably my favorite run I've ever had, partially because without the EXP share I actually had some points where it was challenging and partially because I found a SHINY during the run and that was fun. Kangaskhan, specifically.

She died during the Elite Four in a mutual kill with Drasna's ace. I didn't have the heart to release her. I ended up losing almost my entire team; by the end of the run my only Pokemon left were my Venusaur and Florges. It was a hell of a ride though.

Good humor, nothing overly edgy or dramatic (unless it serves good humor), likable characters...I'm not too snobby on artwork, but comics that are easy on the eyes tend to maintain my interest more easily than those that don't.

Y is fine. Good variety of Pokemon, customization helps you get into your character more if you're into that sort of thing.

The original is the only one I ever go back to anymore. FR arc is kino.

A fair mix of humor and general drama. Nothing that gets too artsy-fartsy, but something that's not afraid to make you a little sad or have you connect with the characters.

Oh Gosh's Platinum Nuzlocke, Locke's Emerald Hard Mode, Generation Anon's Emerald Nuzlocke, Hal's Emerald Nuzlocke.

Something more modern, probably Gen 5+. The heyday of Nuzlocke comics was around the early 10's, so there's an absolute metric fuckton of Gen 3 and 4 Nuzlockes. You can still do one if you want, of course, but you'd have the cards stacked against you in uniqueness.

Thanks for the input, I’m glad to hear that humor is valued because that’s my strong suit and totally what I’m in it for. I was definitely thinking my unique spin on the comic would be to use creative ways and anime bullshit to depict team deaths instead of the usual “critical hit!” in red caps with a bloody panel of a mon getting punched straight through. I’ll be taking a more wild n crazy aim for the horn approach.

Ik this may sound retarded but a lot of nuzlocke comics I’ve read even if they’re good feel too “gamey” as in literally all that happens is the battles, the training/catching, and the route in betweens with battles really being the only slightly interesting thing as the actual world exploration is reduced to simple jokes or teleportation. Trying to get some more fun interactions out of NPCs and the world itself would make it feel a lot more fresh than “my bros go fight these AI trainers aw man one of em died oh look a new bro” and so on

Yeah of course. I have a pretty cartoony doodly style so a lot of the Pokémon might look like shit and my backgrounds will be even worse but the idea is hopefully that it helps me improve.

The big sad moment after losing a Pokémon was done a lot and I don't like it.
I liked Nessa's emerald nuzlocke for the big cool monsters she drew.
But then readers only want one thing: a completed comic. Even if it's mediocre it will be good enough. Look on any webtoons websites and the most popular comics are the ones with the most chapters.
