Take the average gen 1 pokemon, the average gen 2 pokemon, and the average gen 4 pokemon and show them to someone who has never seen pokemon and they'll think they come from completely different series. Gen 1's generic fat dinosaurs with dragon ball eyes look nothing like gen 2's literal kirby enemies, or gen 4's abstract balloon animals.
Digimon is way more consistent, and the gimmick of digimon's design is being inconsistent.
