The issue here is that it's easier to overlevel in swsh. you played gen 4 like a chimp and only used your starter, so it became overleveled. Bet you had a full team in swsh though, little copester.

I've never said that Pokémon used to be hard, just that the new games go out of their way to be even less challenging. Look at how Affection was introduced in Gen VI so you were given free crits, status ailment healing, and Endures for using Pokémon-Amie and whatever Gen VII's was called. And then the latest games just baked Affection in for regular gameplay so you can't possibly avoid it and get a huge advantage that other NPCs don't have. The way Exp. Share is also baked into the game and the way the game just showers you with Exp. Candies for quick leveling also ensures that you'll constantly have a level advantage. I've also never been a fan of gaining experience for catching Pokémon and as someone who catches a lot of Pokémon, my team becomes disproportionately strong.

Yeah but...why should I use them when I'm doing fine enough just clicking Mach Punch and Flame Wheel and one shotting everything in the game? Seems like a waste of time to bother training up a Kricketot or Burmy or Geodude at that point.

With Platinum, the solution is "Use your party evenly instead of relying solely on your starter". In SwSh, the solution is to catch an entirely new party of six every Gym in addition to other self-imposed rules. Like I said, Pokémon was never hard, but they've made it more difficult and tedious for players to make a game with a more balanced difficulty.

Increasing the inconvenience by 600% for the same general challenge doesn't make it equally fun. A game of "Put the ball in the cup" is boring unless you self-impose some difficulty and step back a bit and try to throw it in the cup to add some challenge. SwSh is like if the ball and cup are heavily magnetized and you have course correction and auto-aim so you have to add things like running to the next room and wearing a blindfold and spitting the ball out because your hands are tied to get the same amount of challenge as just throwing the previous ball from a small distance.

Not really, because you're ignoring the fact that the second game has shared exp and a portable PC. And in reality you only really need to use like 2 teams to match Platinum, not 6.

None of these are true. In RBY Brock doesn't even have any rock moves and in FRLG even a crit Rock Tomb isn't enough to KO a lv14ish Charmander. By Misty you'll be in late 20s so you can easily solo her with any starter. For Whitney with Quilava if you fight every Trainer you'll be at lv30 at which point you can easily shit on her.

Mostly true, yes. You can make it through with Ember in RBY if his AI fucks up enough though. FRLG is a crapshoot without grinding.

Wartortle can absolutely handle Misty in a non-grinding run unless you are specifically avoiding every non-forced trainer encounter.
Heck, there is a speedrun with Wartortle beating Misty at level 17 using a single Potion(only necessary because of a crit, could possibly have won without).

Ehhh I kind of doubt it, Swooshie barely has any trainers compared to Platinum plus it has the gen 5 curved exp system so it’s actually kind of hard to overlevel that far

Low enough that it’s easy to kill Onix if you spam enough potions. Also Metal Claw does slightly more damage and can sometimes give you an attack boost which makes it even easier.

It was harder in the first games because you could run into traps since the games didn't handhold you to your next position and give you free heals on every corner.
In Yellow for example you didn't know where Gary is in the Siph Co Tower and that he just approaches you when you enter the room. I got really suprised in my recent replay and nearly lost. You can also end up underleveled on several occasions due to gym leaders not needed to be beaten in order. I completely forgot that Koga came before Sabrina and had a hard time fighting her, and also didn't beat any of the trainers on the routes leading to him. THIS is what people mean when they say the older games were harder.
Also Lances Dragonite in Yellow is probably the strongest mon you will ever battle.

In older gens Gamefreak intended the player to use TMs to make their team proper, that's why they all had shit moves
When people complained because they basically had to replay the game and buy a second cart, that's when they enabled breeding and trading TMs. Stadium was a patch and a cash in of course, but almost nobody got a n64 because ps1 was the winner that gen.

Sometimes I wish I could lock exp gain. There are times I need to grind, but not for levels. For example, right now I'm grinding rematches with this stupid fisherman to try for the 5% chance he'll give a water stone when you beat him, and I'm frustrated that I'm getting overleveled from it.
