Dialogue is fine in jrpgs obviously, but pokemon is so bad at pacing the gameplay and the story segments. In SWSH i lost my mind when Sonia would interrupt me like 10 times during the middle of walking around a town, which were already really small.

Doesn't help that pokemon games are already short, 5 hours or something of cut-scenes in a 20 hour game is not good.

I just checked and in DP you only meet Cynthia three times before the champion fight. Platinum bumps this up to five times where she also offers a Togepi egg and appears during the shitty distortion world sequence
Hop appears nearly eight times before the game ends and a single cutscene with him outstrips all the time spent talking to Cynthia minus the aforementioned shitty distortion world

Pokémania is back and more prevalent than ever though. GO is at an all time normie high, the Switch games sell millions, and the TCG is literally banned from bunch of retailers thanks to rabid fandom. I was alive during the OG Pokémania and right now it’s just as popular or even more so. DP is when the series was dwindling.
