Despite being named after the Kanto region, I remember reading a quote on a picture of the devs saying it was also based on coastal places in general like California and iirc, Florida. Or at least that's "the impression" they wanted to give off, or something. With that in mind, it's "a bit" silly, but honestly, I think the whole thing is misguided.
It's like the BLM mod that one YouTuber made for FighterZ. People of all skin tones can and very much do identify with Dragon Ball Z. The characters don't need a makeover. But just like with Crystal Clear, I guess they meant well. But it's really tasteless. And I can just hear someone in the distance going

It might be a free product produced recreationally, but when they're done well, really well, people hold them in very high regard. I dunno. If you're going to put forth the effort to include Following Pokemon, why not put forth a little more effort into balancing tone and atmosphere? But then again, the Elite 4 have one Shiny Pokemon each and the Champ has a full team of them so. Whatever.
