You can even catch Mareep right before the gym. The only noteworthy thing is getting a Wooper before the 1st gym, which isn't much.

in lgpe they demolished the safari zone and replaced it with the go park. when they demolished it they had to do something with the pokemon held in captive so they let them free in to the wild.

Wouldn't surprise me, Serebii is wrong about so much stuff. From encounter levels to core mechanics like "guise SwSh has shiny chains. No wait, there is no chaining" when the chaining in the datamines referred to chain fishing for shinies that we've had since like Gen III.

Always wanted to make a "fixed" romhack of FRLG
>nat dex restrictions removed
>the trainers on the SS Anne actually using pokemon from other regions like Hoenn
>slightly expanding the regional dex
>increasing number of pokemon in gym battles
>scripting more events/expanding the Sevii Islands with mons that were restricted to the GC games
only thing is that it would be pretty damn niche and probably wouldn't offer a unique experience compared to the actual base game
