There is Sacred Gold and Storm Silver for HGSS, which has minimal changes compared to the originals, but I don't think there is many for GSC unfortunately. I will try to have a look later to see what I can find and if I do I'll add it to the GDrive.

I'd have to choose between Goldenrod, Ecruteak, and Olivine. I like living in a city where everything I need is near me.
I'd probably go with Olivine, they have a pretty good restaurant. I'd love to go there to eat and then just look out the wide-open sea afterwards.

Well, GSC's bad exp distribution (specially if you're using a 5 or 6 poke team) kinda forces you to use them because you'll be pretty underleveled for the E4. Legendaries kinda even the odds.

I made a rule for myself that I could only have one legendary in my party, personally. Even as a kid I realized that they tended to completely trivialize the game, which, at that time, provided a decent enough challenge for me in general. Pokémon games are not hard, but when you're a kid, you don't think as clearly or strategically, so it can make the game tougher sometimes. I was one of those dummies that rarely, if ever, used stat moves and wanted four unga bunga big damage moves on every Pokémon, with maybe the odd status inflicter.

This is also true. Though, I do kind of like GSC's E4 being overleveled, it made them more challenging for sure if you didn't grind. I have to imagine it's a common run killer for nuzlockes.

I agree and disagree. I'm not a fan of the very bloated learnsets Pokémon have had in recent gens, but a lot of then gen 2 movesets were atrocious and it took a long time to get some moves, so I can understand why people hate the curve so much. It also makes the postgame a lot more boring if you don't box your team and start over. I get that it brought the game to be more in line with RBY, to try and world build so that lv50+ mons weren't hanging out right outside major cities, but I don't think the trainers and wild mons had to be at such low levels; there was plenty of middle ground to be found there to strike a balance between world building and gameplay enjoyment.
tl;dr I can accept the level curve of the main game, though it was flawed, but Kanto's level "curve" was indefensible.

Shit, I was about to ask you how the hell you got a Machamp while playing on an SP because you can't trade between GBC games through a GBA cable. Then I googled this and figured out that you can actually use a GBC cable with the GBA and SP. 17 fucking years ago I was upset to find out that I couldn't trade between my Gen1-2 Pokemon games and here I am in 2021 realizing that I can and that the right cables are available on Amazon for 10 USD.

Should have mentioned, you use an egg to get the pokemon registered in the Dex. By playing normally if you don't have a second game boy, game and cable link, you can get around 199 pokemon on your own. (Not counting the other starters, kanto starters, kanto legends, stone evos and gold exclusives) but you can try to complete it with this glitch.

a couple of months ago, an anon dropped a romhack here that was just crystal with minimalistic QoL changes. No OCs, no later gen mons, just reusable tms, harder trainers, more accesible nests for gen 2 pokemon, special ghost and physical dark, etc. It didn't have a name, and I cant find it archived on any site though. honestly, would anyone be interested in possibly designing one of these for HGSS? I'm not super experienced with hacking but to my knowledge it would be doable with just hacking tools (trainer editors/encounter editors). Could possibly unfuck the level curve and fix the leader teams.

I want to hunt shiny Luigi in Soul Silver.

I did it with the egg so I could get the resulting pokemon added to the Dex. Too bad Celebi still has the moves the pokemon that originally was in the egg had but I wasn't planning to use it anyway.
Sadly there's no way around it but I'm more interested in completing this dex now that it's actuallly possible without link cable.

I will never forget the rush I felt after beating the Elite Four, coming out the other side of Victory Road and arriving in Viridian City and realising I CAN EXPLORE THE WHOLE OF KANTO. Completely took me surprise and blew me away because I thought I'd just completed the game. I barely even cared that so many bits of Kanto were missing or unfinished. It was just such a sweet surprise.

Yeah, these days I'm rarely surprised anyway because all the information is available online before I even play it. Whereas back then I didn't even read any Nintendo magazines or anything so everything was new and unexpected.
