Retire it.
Arceus will sell shitting but be absolutely so poorly made it will turn people off from the next release. Gen 5 remakes will combined with Arceus reception will kill the series, creating a TLJ to Solo effect which trickled down the TRoS.

It will continue to cater primarily to an aging nostalgic fanbase and will continue to lose fans falling out of the hype while being fully unable to capture new younger ones.

Swsh was the final nail in the coffin for a big chunk of old players, meaning that PLA will sell very poorly (unless it truly is the BOTW tier pokemon game we all want, which is... A hope i guess) and not for what gf wilk think (andult pandering wrong, let's do another legpiss). At this point the next release will be pandered toward casuals and kids, without every good feature that made the previous games good (like swsh with totems and sidequests from gen7, soaring from oras not in Alola...).

Unironically, it will be new & innovative technologies that change the franchise the most. Assuming, of course, Game Freak actually adopts the technology of next decade & modernizes. Chance of this happening aren't high considering Pokemon is not a hardware driven franchise prone to pushing the technological boundaries of even Nintendo consoles nor utilizing "in-house" hardware innovations.

The mobile era would also need to end, and it likely will at some point.

I think the bigger question is when will they just straight up stop making new pokemon games. How many more years does this game series have? Nintendo games have an amazing reputation to last and stick around, IE Mario and Legend of Zelda games.
