>>47163597not defending game freak but the reason for the janky gen 5 animations is because the sprites are actually separated (e.g. mew's sprite is split into it's head, torso, arm 1, arm 2, leg 1, leg 2 and tail), and each one is rigged seperately. this helped cut time and costs but also resulted in the cheap looking animations we ended up with. animating each pokemon, twice, frame by frame, would have been impossible, especially in the time frame given.
