I hadn't played a non-romhack Pokemon game since Emerald and picked up shield w/dlc (on sale) on a whim, the base game is shockingly, astonishingly short and empty - the wild area was a good idea and the highlight of the base game but it was too small and simplistic to make up for how lackluster the rest of the game is. Isle of armor was the wild area, but done better, and the story element was better than the main game despite being really fucking short. It was at least charming. Crown tundra was better still.
If there had been no DLC it would be a solid 4/10. Even though I kind of liked the DLC there is no way in fucking hell the whole package is worth the retail price, the base game is borderline shovelware.
