>>47166579I don’t even hate Greninja but I genuinely hate the trend it set with starters where gamefreak keeps insisting on making the designated shillmon be the objective best starter to push its exposure in every facet of the series which Incinaroar and trashrabbit (oops I meant Cinderace) followed this trend which the latter is soo uncreative and reeks of desperation for popularity that it literally rips off of Greninja on a gameplay level in almost every way (which is honestly just makes it an inferior greninja in every conceivable way). As much shit Charizard gets and it is warranted at times, it at least earn its popularity on its own merits back in the day without being given any special treatment prior to gen 6.
I would of much rather starters go for the gen 3 treatment where all three were treated equally and all three end up being good Pokémon in their own right which did result in all three of them being decently popular in some capacity with the popular one being earned on its own merits.
