any 'ATB' will be some dumb minigame attached to some minor boss mechanic so the game can market itself as different to the others, without actually having to change anything major

The ATB in this refers to the battles taking place seamlessly in the overlord, and not that they aren't turn based. The battle scenes do not shift you into another area based on where you originally were as all previous games did. Feel free to disagree, but you'll know in probably less than a month anyway.

The main series has long needed an overhaul to the combat. It was only turn-based for so long because of hardware limitations. Battles should be more like the manga.

I hope we can move around in battle, too. ATB + movement/positioning would make for a very dynamic combat experience.

In the original the trainers had health bars with the possibility of being attacked. The new system can now make that a reality. There should be more danger in Pokemon battles. I doubt PLA will actually do it, but the possibility is there at least.

It will probably exist alongside the traditional games rather than incorporate these elements into them.
