because BW was the coming of age thing, and XY was the transition into full 3D. previously, we only ever needed main spin-offs anyway because the main games were visually lifeless. Say what you will about gen 5 and up, but attempts at soul were made because the hardware allowed it

When you think about it, the Dexit shit could've justified a separate rpg game for the missing Pokemon. That's a reason the Colosseum series existed itself.

As for spinoffs in general, there's Conquest which I actually would've liked to have seen an upscaled sequel to. The characters, music, era, and just different take for being a cross over game is more interesting imo than the last few games have been.

No reason to. The only appeal of those games was seeing Pokemon in 3D, but the main games are already 3D to begin with, so "Stadium" games became entirely pointless.

By he time of the Wii, more normies were buying that, but being blue ocean targets, they didn't give a shit for console-based spin-offs and Ishihara stopped wasting money on them as only kids buying isn't enough to recoup dev costs (which he has to eat 100% of).

I don't think this is entirely true. Unless you believe the only value in spin off RPGs are "Pokemon on a console in 3D", which I can understand thinking for the Stadium games but is selling Colo and XD very short.
Look at a series like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. Both of those have had both mainline and spinoff RPGs on the same consoles. Just because we can experience a "traditional", "main", Pokemon adventure on the Switch doesn't mean there isn't room for one that's less traditional, has a different setting, covers different story points or has a different pool of Pokemon available.

I'm not sure if Legends Arceus counts as a "main" game or not yet, but that comes to mind right away. It's looking to be a very different experience to the traditional mainline Pokemon games yet it still exists on the same console. Saying no to more variety and experiences for a reason like that has always seemed really strange to me.

Seeing your Pokemon transformed from low quality 2D sprites to high quality 3D models was most of the appeal for kids

It damn sure wasn't the gameplay, since it was exactly the same as what your were already playing on your handheld

Nowadays, a Stadium game would't just play the same as a mainline game, it'd look the same too

They become pointless when the series went 3D, and doubly pointless when series moved from handhelds to home consoles
