People blame this games downfall on the 2D 3D arenas but personally by biggest issue was the fact that the Rock Paper Scissor of Grab,Attack and Counter was ultimately what put me off from enjoying the game.

Silvally (Changes types mid battle, functions similarly to Smash Shulk) Urshifu (stance change), Tyranitar (Slow long range fighter), Swampert (idk but it feels wrong to have him and not the other Hoenn starters), Hercross (inverts debuffs, but buffs are weaker than other characters), Krookodile (stacks buffs and debuffs to nuke with Power Trip), Jirachi (instead of countering leading to an attack, it stuns the opponent for a bit), Electrivire (elemental punches), Kecleon (joke stance based character that switches stances automatically based on opponent’s action) Genesect (fast projectile based character).

I was a turbo casual who didn’t even bother with Iron League in the Switch version, so I don’t really know. All I do know is that there needs to be a way to prevent projectile locking (Braxien’s Fire Blast and Mewtwo’s Hyper Beam spam ruined online for me).

Boss fight modes against intentionally OP characters (Ho-oh who constantly regains health, Dialga who can slow your movements, etc.)

Giant Boss fights: Similar to Smashbros. It doesn't really add anything at a competitive level, but it's a great detail for the story mode.
A real story mode: Give each pokemon a background, eliminate the trainer, if you like, place this in the world of Pokemon Dungeon, but make each character worthwhile.
From time to time it delivers packages with new characters, settings, music and game modes. It's Pokemon! the rooster should be gigantic.

Skins: It's stupid, but it's where the money is, as well as a way to customize your pokemon.
