Image will be huge because I’m phone posting at work but how normie is my Crystal team boys? Zard and Pikachu came from Yellow. I ditched a Noctowl and an HM slave. 10 badges currently. Just captured Snorlax.

Thanks brother, I picked typh because I have always been a Gatr man and I think Meganium was my pick as a kid so I had to complete the starter experience. Butterfree, Nidoking, and Politoed have been absolutely unbelievably based and made some wicked plays for me. Ice punch nido nearly swept Lance by himself. I had never used Politoed before prior to this playthrough so that's been nice. And yes, said Pikachu is from my most recently Yellow playthrough a few years back because I still have my cables and OG hardware

Typhlosion is pretty good, I really like the whole line's designs. I've always heard butterfree was surprisingly good but never had the chance to really use one. Nidoking is a beast, no surprise there.
Politoed surprised me in my last crystal playthrough. He is quite bulky and hits hard, good typing, great utility and of course he gets ice punch too.
Just a good mon, and easier to get before Kanto if you're playing gold or silver.

Yeah Typhlosion has been an easy win powerhouse since he hit his final stage. Feraligatr is similar in that regard (bite and ice punch can solo half the e4). I highly recommend butterfree. Insane early-mid game clutch, and even had a moment or two during my e4 battle. I think the moveset I have is psybeam, sleep and stun powders, and supersonic. Has been a good capture tool as well. And funny story about Politoed. I was originally going to use Poliwrath but then thought about the fact that I'd still be primarily using special moves and went with this guy due to stats. I admit I did not get him until after the e4 because I totally misread the instructions on getting a king's rock (i thought you had to depend on slowpoke drops, didn't realize there was a dude in the well that literally *gives* it to you) but has been an easy sweeper in Kanto.

Butterfree is a decent in-game special attacker. Butterfree gets even better in HGSS.
