>>47188054That's the problem. It's just water. Lots and lots of water. There's no landmarks. A maze would be easier to navigate. A maze is just a series of corridor, which is essentially what the rest of the game is like. As long as the corridors aren't nearly identical (i.e. Wayward Cave), you can use landmarks to remember where you are, such as corners, length of corridors, doors, etc. Also, they tend to be narrow. Smaller spaces mean more awareness of where you are within that space. You don't get lost exploring the rest of the game because it's easy to identify where you are at all time.
>>47188127There is a map in the menu. It's just nearly useless in the sea. Pokemon maps just show you a bunch of interconnected lines, which works fine usually because routes tend to be shaped like corridors and you only need to know which corridor you're in and which corridors you need to take to get to your destination. It doesn't work for the sea because the sea isn't a bunch of corridors. "You're in this part of the sea" is not useful because the sea isn't narrow. It's only use is telling you where you are relative to the towns, which is fine for navigation but if you actually care about exploring, you need some landmarks.
