I think anon is arguing just because DP/BW use sprites in their 3D environments doesn’t mean the environments aren’t 3D, people don’t call MarIo 64 2.5D even though the game uses tons of sprites

Same. I also liked how the 3D Pokemon games up to ORAS still gave the player enough agency to make their own decisions instead of being railroaded the whole game. Paper Mario is another good example of that.
