I'm fairly certain I had seen or played Silver a little bit before I owned Sapphire, which was the first game I owned, so I don't know. If I say that I began with Sapphire, then no, it's not. Gen 3 is far from being my favorite Gen.
I got Sapphire when I was like 6, 7 or 8 years old though. The games I spent most of my time with as a child with cognitive thinking skills were DPPt, HGSS, and BW1. I did not play BW2 until I was an adult. Of those three, I would say my favorite Generation is 4, as I still hold it in good regard. As a teen, I'd have told you it was Gen 5 in a heartbeat though. And I still find much to like about it.
Anyway, I'm still not sure if Generation 4 is my favorite "in general". I'd like to believe it is, but I've spent much time lately playing Crystal VC, and Polished Crystal, and various Crystal oriented Hacks. So Gen 2 has grown on me to an extreme extent. When I touched Crystal VC I was surprised at how much more captivating it was than HGSS. It looks a lot better even though you can't run and there are no following monsters. And all of the assorted media from that Generation has a compelling artistic style to it, and the fanart is good too.
tl;dr no, it's definitely not RSE, LOOOOOOOOOOOL but may roxanne flannery and winona are great
