XY was baller for me. I was stoked when I played it. Great pokemon distribution even if they shove starters and strong pokemon down your throat. I finally got to use my man beedrill and I probably will again next time I play it. Good music, pretty region, I though team flare's plan was pretty bonkers so I liked that.
The big thing that got me was trainer customization. I was really into it because that sort of stuff always immerses me. I had different outfits that I would put on when I entered particular environments or when I was doing specific things, it was great. Sun and Moon completely killed customization for me because there isn't a boutique in every town so you can't put on different outfits for different areas. Most of Alola is the same tropical environment too so there's no point to multiple outfits. That loss of immersion totally killed me, along with my hand being held all the way to Po Town. At that point I realized I wasn't going to be the target audience for Pokemon ever again.
