What order do you tackle gyms 5-7 and why? If you want explain how you explore the different areas if you have a method to the order.
For me, I usually do the rocket HQ then Pryce and then Chuck and Jasmine.

always gone lighthouse > chuck > jasmine > lor/rocket hq > pryce

taking into account the levels of the trainers you face and the gym leaders, this is the most optimal way to go about it. maybe chuck before pryce actually idk

Can't think of any at the moment, although I do dislike how many Kantomon are in the early game. And of course I wish Murkrow, Houndour, Scizor, and Steelix were available earlier/with less fuss.

HeartGold, for the first time actually! For some reason it runs really slow on DeSmuME, which is impacting my enjoyment. The fastforward button doesn't really seem to work, it just removes frames.

Pic related. Trying something a little different. I don't think I've ever used Drowzee on a main team before, and Crobat has always been my flying mon by default. Shopping around for a different one, but there are so few Pokemon in Johto who can actually learn fly...

Grab the melonds emulator or perhaps even no$gba if you're desperate. MelonDS is much more recommended currently as a DS emulator than desmume though.

If you're playing Crystal get yourself a Teddiursa from Dark Cave. Encounter rate is abysmally low and it may flee but it's worth it.

Crystal giving you Phanpy at the base of R46 and Teddiursa as soon as you hit Dark Cave was so baller, one of the things I really wish they’d done with HGSS was update the mon distribution, even though I knew based on FRLG they wouldn’t.

Mod your own. It's easy and will make you feel good. The screen kits are like $40-50 and GBCs are easy to fix if you get a cheap broken one for like $30 (the issue is usually mild corrosion on the battery contacts or a broken screen). Shells are like $15 but if you're insistent on getting a custom painted one, you'll have to pay more.

How much is the seller charging for that? If it's over $150, just do it yourself for cheaper.

I need a somewhat vanilla hackrom or Silver team. Spacegold was good, Fool's Gold was unique, Prism/Crystal Clear are ok.

I'm warming up to Murkrow and Xatu, getting egg moves is fun and makes some Pokemon usable. Pure Silver, Emu edition, Patched Crystal or Perfect Crystal (2020)?

I don't hate any of them, but maybe Igglybuff for being completely unnecessary and less cute than its evolutions. Far more than any pokemon from Johto, I hate the evolutions that Gen4 tacked onto Johto lines.

The time based events have really grown on me with my most recent play through. Not only does it give the game a little more depth and purpose, but god damn it just feels so comfy knowing that it’s also early AM in the Johto countryside as well. I wish to god there was weather in Johto.

I watched a review recently that painted Gen 2 in a light I hadn’t seen yet, that being, yes the post game is a little weak level-wise, but that it was done so to make sure we don’t get too wrapped up in grinding and grinding and leveling and leveling when there’s all these fuckin chill time based comfy things to participate in. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a better way to train for Red and Stadium 2, but thinking about it in that regard really does make sense considering this was the intended last game in the series.

>tfw game freak wanted us to literally live in Johto and listen to the radio and pick apricorns and catch bugs and call our friends and catch Pokémon in the wee morning and late night and not worry about grinding. Just literally vibe out in Johto

I must disagree. As much as I love Gen II, it did have a problem with having a lot of "meh" Pokémon with no evolution & lame stats. That gen had a lot of wasted potential, & this was a good fix.
