And why is it Gen 4?
Let me rate them real quick:
Gen 1: Honestly pretty good, but I think Blastoise is the weak link. His design is good, but he needs a unique move or a cool ability, gameplay wise he is too generic and doesn’t stand out. I’m not really considering megas for tiering, but his gigantamax looks a lot cooler than his mega.
Gen 2: Fuck Meganium, the rest are cool.
Gen 3: 2nd best starter trio, all of them are cool and I struggle to pick which one to take.
Gen 4: I’m in love with every single starter
Gen 5: Bad trio. Samurott is generic gameplay wise like blastoise, and probably should have been bipedal. Emboar is ugly and gets mogged by Incineroar. Serperior is the only cool one.
Gen 6: Greninja is just so much better than the rest. Chesnaught might be the most boring grass starter of them all, Meganium at least has an interesting support style niche. People refuse to evolve their Braixen into Delphox because it turns into an ugly hag.
Gen 7: Primarina is too unicorn sparkly style feminine and fat, incineroar and decidueye are good.
Gen 8: Honestly one of the better trios as all of them are decent. Focus energy intelleon is fun gameplay wise, and his sniper gigantamax and his secret agent design is cool. Cinderace and Rillaboom are also both decent.
Gen 4, Gen 3, and Gen 1 are the best, in that order.
