split + bigger variety of useful items + general power creep makes it way easier to shit on the AI

also it only requires 49 wins for gold instead of 70, in emerald you have to go through like three streaks of fighting legendaries before being able to get to Anabel again.

receiving (unless you abuse rng) and training competitive pokémon is true suffering in gen 3. on top of natures and IVs, you have to EV train which is a hellgrind even with pkrs and a macho brace

All of those are more likely to fuck you over than anything new gen 4 added. It’s a lot easier to account for an opponent using a super effective reduction berry than brightpowder deciding to randomly trigger.
