I don't mind Ash having a fighting style and certain Pokemon just being incompatible with it, that's honestly decent writing as far as this shitty anime goes.
But at least let him trade away Torterra for someone who CAN use it, and get something more suited to his own style in return, instead of leaving the poor dude in permanent limbo
