yeah sure if you want it to be butchered by ILCA in sub-par Johto remakes, where kanto will look worse than LGPE, FRLG, HGSS, GSC and even RBY.

I always found it weird they gave Red an Espeon but didn't give Blue an Umbreon. Especially since Blue having an eeveelution as his ace would match Red having a Pikachu like Yellow.

It's a commonality throughout all Pokemon games that a trainer's highest leveled Pokemon is his/her main. Red's highest leveled Pokemon is always Pikachu.

He's not the MC in those games. Pikachu not being around is just a technical choice on the side of the developers. It's only 4 levels higher than the Kanto trio on his team, it's not like it's 20 levels above them. It's symbolic obviously, to show that it's the main Pokemon, just how it is for nearly every trainer throughout all the games. Red is always shown with his Pikachu, it's not just some random Pokemon he caught, it's his main Pokemon.

I think they gave him an espeon in gsc as a reference to rby not having a day/night cycle, which is one of the main innovations of gen2

eevee is a gift mon in the original games and realistically red could only evolve it into an espeon because of the perpetual daylight

plus, psychic was by far the best type in gen1 so it makes sense for the champion of the region to have one, even when psychics were past their prime

I just beat LGP a couple days ago, and even though the meta was a bit different and they held your hand a little too much, I still had lots of fun. I enjoyed seeing everything with new graphics.

No. Red's team is meant to represent every player's journey through Kanto, irrespective of which version they picked. That's why it has all three starters, Pikachu and all the event Pokémon every player gets one way or the other.
