I just dug this out of my closet, if it’s not saving does that mean the cartridge battery is dead?

it is saving but the save is lost every time you turn off the game. But changing the battery is super easy, did it two weeks ago on all my old games in just a few minutes.

Yes, you’ll need a new battery to have a functioning save feature again. But it’s cheap and easy. Just look up something like “Pokémon game boy batteries” on eBay and you’ll also need a soldering iron. It literally just takes a few mins and your game will be good to go.

They use CR2025 batteries. Look for tabbed ones so they are safe and easy to solder.
If you wanna be real fancy you can get a special holder to solder in place of the battery and then use basic non-tabbed 2025's you can pick up at a grocery store.
