I love random encounters, Pokemon is a game that does them perfectly, It's not annoying like Dragon Quest or Mother 1 and it adds to the thrill of finding new pokemon

Finding a rare encounter in other games is like "oh wow a rare enemy" and then you kill it anyways.

I like gen 2 because many "new" mons were somewhat rare, they weren't supposed to be just replacements of gen1, but just more to catch and find. Hell, I just found out this year were to pinecone in Gold

I’m gonna ignore the image, and say that you mentioning Mother gave me PTSD, the random encounters in that game were a pain in the ass, especially since you’re not guaranteed to run at the start of the battle. Even the ring that’s supposed to reduce random encounters doesn’t help. Pokémon does random encounters a lot more smoothly.

I wish Pokémon was never popular. It would be nice if Pokémon was just a small fandom. Not so unpopular opinion but I wish Pokémon stayed in 2D.

XY only marked a decline in the quality of the singleplayer, and even then that's only if you ignore Pokemon Amie. Every other aspect of the series has either stagnated in quality or seen a net improvement since (SWSH had worse Pokemon designs than previous generations, but hopefully that's confined to gen 8 and doesn't become a trend)

I definitely don't get the hate for random encounters. Especially in Pokemon, typically wild Pokemon aren't much of a threat.

Tedium is another argument, though it can be alleviated by simply stocking up on Repels

Unpopular opinion? I prefer HMs the way they were compared to the alternatives presented in 7th and 8th gen. Using your own Pokemon to travel is more immersive and lends more to bonding with your Pokemon

Sugimori's watercolor style wasn't that great. Sugi's best style was his early late Gen 2 to early Gen 4 style. After that, his style started to become less unique and less detailed.

That's a pretty good point. As much shit as I give XY, the PSS was the series high point for multiplayer.
8th gen stamp system is badly designed.

The only region to do the "some new pokemon are hard to find to reward exploration" thing correctly was Alola, maybe Hoenn depending on what you look at. Others either go too far in making pokemon impossible to use or don't go far enough in hiding them.

I never hear anyone talk about this but I think the notion that pokemon “talk” by saying their name repeatedly is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Thank god the games havent adopted it

Pokemon staying in 2D would be shit. 3D pokemon hasn't been great, but that's due to GF's incompetence.
Pokemon in 2D limits what the series can bring in every way. Interacting with your mons, pokemon walking around in the overworld, vast open expanses to explore. Those would never work as well in 2D as in 3D, as much as I love the 2D games.

Growing up I always assumed that they would simply use Stadium/ColosseumXD/PBR models and update them to cut down on workload. That would've been great because they have so much personality and action. Seemed like a no brainer.
