What was the fucking point of him being in Alola? Him being in Alola without reason was a weird cameo.

Realistically it's just a favourite character of whoever was working on that part of game scenario/story. Same with Anabel. Pokemon has character bloat so it's way more cooler and convient for them to re-use old characters than just make new ones.

I welcome random cameos like this. They’re fun and adds a little bit of worldbuilding and continuity.

But the given In-Game Reason is heavily implied to be that Grimsley fell hard to his crippling gambling addiction, lost almost if not all of his fortune, and left or got kicked out of the Unovan Elite Four for reasons likely related to his breakdown. He's in Alola to get some peace of mind.

Why not? I think its neat that alola has a bunch of cameos. It also means that with people like wally and cynthia being in it their themes are part of the ost. That, the themes of most legendaries, and the good original soundtracks help make usum have the best pokemon ost
