>>47245023Why doesn't Hippowdon have a tongue in its model? What the hell?
>>47245031Massive downgrade, the big eyes and teeth are what made it look imposing.
>>47245227I agree with you. 3D allows the artists to make more diverse animations for each Pokemon and specific attacks, while 2D's bright, lifelike colors and more attractive proportions make the Pokemon look better when in static poses. The edges and lines could have been a lot better in Gen 5, though; the tweening looks terribly uneven.
>It’s a give and take. Claiming that the shift to 3D was outright good or outright bad is just dumb. Like most things, there are both positive and negative effects. This is objectively correct. 2D and 3D design and animation have their strengths and weaknesses as art styles beyond Pokemon and beyond video games. To claim one or the other can't be improved upon shows a lack of experience with either of those mediums of art. Pokemon has the resources to make the models more colorful and accurate, just as they had the resources to create unique sprite animations. This is the world's most lucrative franchise, beyond even Mario and Zelda. The problem is they don't have to improve because the games will sell no matter what.
