Share which generation overall had the best starters and which one had the worst from a design perspective

Me first

Best: Gen 3 although the first 4 generations are all good

Worst: Gen 5 I don’t like any of the starters or their evolutions

But this is my opinion share yours

Gen 4. Each one is unique and has a great concept. Also fun to use in game. Don't like Prinplup but all the other members of that line and the rest of the Gen 4 starters are golden and a perfect showcase of pokemon design.

I actually think Gen 5 has the best ones. I think they all have interesting designs without going too far into "character" territory like 7 and 8. Gen 3 is really good too though and is either tied for first or a close second.

Between 6 and 8. Probably 6 overall. I wouldn't call them bad, they're just really boring to me. The designs in 8 aren't great either but I think they're at least a little more interesting

The Turtwig and Chimchar lines are really solid. I don't even like Gen IV but Sinnoh had great starters

To be honest a lot of gens have really nice starters. In a personal opinion I love gen 3 and 7 starters, but being a bit more realistic:
-Just counting first stage gen 7 wins overall. The designs are really simple and easy to guess animals, which is nice for kids.
-Counting all stages I'd say that gen 1 and 3 serves better the proposal of the starters if we count each generation as a complete pack. In both gens all starters look like intimidating bros, but in many of the other at least one of the starters fail doing this. I love primarina but most of the other water starters serves better their purpouse.

Gen 8 for sure. First stages are cute and all but all final stages just look like awful OCs instead of looking like species themselves. Gen 7 starters were near this line, but gen 8 destroyed it.

I prefer my monsters to look like monsters and not humans in suits. Rillaboom gets a pass because it's a gorilla, but the anthropomorphization has gotten out of control.

I have an opinion that states that the starter trios from gens 1-5, and yes including 5, were mostly defined by their animalism and monstrous-ness. Their themes were secondary inspirations. With gens 6-8, you can see what they are trying to be so much more obviously than their actual animal inspirations. Therefore, the Unova trio was the last monstrous and animalistic starter trio.

Gen 8. When your entire trio is so bad that I'd rather use generic shitmon like Combee and Vespiquen then you've got a massive problem. Abandoning the "monster" part of Pocket Monsters will always be one of the worst decisions this franchise has ever made.

6: Gen 3. All of the final stages are ugly. I don't know why people praise these besides nostalgia.
5: Gen 6. Delphox and Greninja are ass but Chestnaught is cool.
4: Gen 4. First stages are cartoony for my tastes. Middle stages are passable, but Torterra is the only final stage I can jive with.
3: Gen 1. It alright. Not tasteful or nuanced, but it alright.
2: Gen 2. I have a soft spot for monotype starters, and all three show theirs off nicely. Not a single bad stage to be seen.
1: Gen 5. Serperior is great, I like snakemons and, as said before, monotype starters are my jam. I think Pignite's singlet is adorable and goe well with the wrestler theme without being obnoxious like Incineroar. And Samurott? Quadrupedal bro with a bangin' stache. I also like the cultural inspirations and again, there's not a single bad design throughout. No, not even Servine.
