Fuck yes it would be. Gen 7 had one of the best regional dexes in the series, at the very least top 3. Plus the region was great and it gave you a sense of progress as you got to a new island without giving away what was upcoming.

-you grab a starter
-have 7 islands with 16 totem pokemon and 7 trial capitans
-you collect Z crystals
-no shitllie no shitau no shitskull gang
-you have no idea what you gonna meet
-each of 16 totem pokemon have a chance to be different pokemon
[wishiwashi/araquanid/pyukumuku/starmie ect]
-before the league you must deal with totem ultra beasts and necrozma or you won't proceed
-each of E4 has one random totem pokemon, champion has team full of totem pokemon not used in the trials

I wish I could play SUMO/USUM, but the story is Too Much a part of it. I think they tried really well and it could have been fun if they squished the story moments together so its not a cutscene every two second, and most importantly if they actually had cutscenes rather than a bland idle/talking animation and walls of text.
