Fanwork will always be irrelevant.
Even if the definition of "canon" is fuzzy in terms of Pokemon (where even the core series games contradict each other), fanwork is always just fanwork. It will never be treated equally as official stuff.
Stop fapping to your favorite doujin. The fact that the author opted for a decent story, rather than porn or shitty lovestory like 99% of doujin artist doesn't mean it's more "official". It is as unrecognized by licensing parties as hentai shit.
