>>47279280While there isn't much to say in terms of pure writing, a design can say a lot about a character. You know that Pryce is an Ice-type Gym Leader and that his Gym is filled with actual ice. Everyone there is a skier. But Pryce is some old man in a polo shirt and shorts. It's like the cold doesn't faze him whatsoever. He wears what he finds comfortable no matter the condition. He doesn't care about formalities. He's old and has had many experiences, it's almost sage-like the way he's unaffected, like his many experiences have hardened him. You can see this in his stern expression and almost gaunt body. He looks ready to judge you. A good design says a thousand words.
In HGSS, he's all bundled up in a poofy jacket and a big scarf, and his expression is much kinder and warmer. Not only that, but he wears formal clothing beneath said jacket. It gives him an entirely different vibe. The way his scarf blows in the wind almost seems majestic, which is completely at odds with his unassuming hunched sprite in Gen II. In short, the design loses all subtlety and now it's "Ice-type? Uh, coat to keep him warm, just make him look warm while dressed for the cold".
