I pirated Swish and the game was fine without any villains or leggies. Yell has no HQ and barely did anything so they could've been replaced by generic trainers while Rose literally contributed nothing for the gameplay. It's clear that both of them was added just because it's part of their tradition now that every pokemon game must have a villain group even though this particular game didn't need them at all.

They either have to go full edgy Lysandre or Ghetsis or have a more light hearted villain with a more serious one behind the scenes like Guzma and Lusamine. Giovanni worked well but they haven't really managed to recapture that kind of stuff with the crazy end-of-the-world stories they want to tell nowadays

who the fuck thought this would be a good idea in a kids series?

Skull are the only fun villains so far, and they're all totally outclassed by the ranger villains who were consistently hilarious

To be honest, SM Lusamine was the only pokemon villain I've really liked.
Possibly because her villainous shit is more lowkey than the other ones, sans Giovanni and because it at least hits the cheap emotional buttons.
Plus I just like the character archetype. Like Ragyo from KLK and Queen Sectonia from Kirby. Totally vain and abusive women obsessed with control, power and their own twisted perceptions of beauty.

Giovanni is pretty basic but works well especially as a first evil boss, its also neat how hes a gym leader
