>>47282627Being able to gain a free turn in a turn based game where 1 turn can win you a battle is not something that should be easily obtained or to force on your opponent. Moves like Double Team have been banned because they’ll at random (and pretty good chance too) give you a free turn.
The only other moves that give the user a free turn are Fake Out, protect moves, and forced switches like with Perish Song, Encore, or sending in something that threatens your opponent. All of these give yourself very little in your free turn, or require tons of effort.
Brightpowder should already fall under Evasion Clause along with Snow Cloak/Sand Veil considering it literally boosts your evasion.
For King’s Rock, it’s worse than Brightpowder on most Pokemon besides Cloyster and other Skill Link users, but a similar principle applies.
Both are items with a pretty good chance of giving yourself a free turn, especially King’s Rock with Skill Link. This is a huge contrast to something like Fake Out as Fake Out not only has several requirements, it is only a bit if chip damage in singles.
With Brightpowder and King’s Rock, you can get massive benefits without the massive drawbacks of other free turn methods. At worst, your item gets knocked off, which sure happens, but so does every item, and no other items are remotely as uncompetitive as Brightpowder and King’s Rock.
And honestly, why not ban them?
At least with something like Fire Blast, that miss is on the user technically. It’s lack of use and viability didn’t stop Moody from being banned. Who is gonna miss these Items besides Cloyster?
I can at least understand that Iron Head might be missed as it’s the strongest most reliable and distributed steel type physical attack.
