Sun and moon were linear and story focused, but they also werent constantly stopping you to tell you that the building that you were headed to anyways is right in front of you then having an npc guide you to that building that you can already see. The characters actually had personalities in sun and moon. The totem challanges were actually fun and sometimes even a bit tough. The trainers actually could give you a run for your money in a few spots like hau and his raichu.
SwSh basically has no story, and yet is stopping you in your tracks literally every 30 steps you take just to spew some regurgitated bullshit in your face that you already knew, the characters are blank slates and have no personality, the battles are so easy you have to purposfully gimp yourself otherwise all you will spend all game doing is pressing A with no regard to strategy.
