If DLC/expansions are the future for the series, then I think they need to add to the base game.
In SWSHs case, the DLCs were entire new areas, and the only thing added to the base game was the Galar Star Tournament. Arguablely this was more appropriate to have in the main game but future DLCs need to add more substantial content to the base games as well.
A big appeal for third versions like Emerald, Platinum, and particularly BW2 is that they added activities to the existing areas, sometimes new areas as well, but the base game was improved.
