What the fuck happened to routes like
119 and 212. When I played these games it felt like I actually conquered something

Honestly as someone who doesn’t like Hoenn, Route 119 was a treat. Hoenn’s my favourite and even I can admit it dwarves 212, but that’s partially because Sinnoh shifted some of its content to having a post-game.

Tbh, some areas in Crown Tundra gave me the same feelings of exploration but never really the same feeling of success. It was absolute kino adventuring up the Tunnel to the Top and Path to the Peak and looking over the whole Tundra, but they weren’t very difficult to climb anyway.

The map is actually close to a 1:1 version of the original. The problem is more that ORAS's Route has a lack of scale.

They stopped making good routes after gen 5 and even then most of gen 5's routes are only good because of the verticality and details rather than because they're challenging or have good puzzles.

Oh shit it’s the Hoenn excuses thread what happens after this route? If you guessed the water routes you are correct. Also the town, tree houses? The weather institute was an obnoxious speed bump too. I travel with a full team and YAY no room for the castform I have to come back later for a gimmicked shitmon. Oh but that’s KINO backtracking isn’t it? Maybe you’ll figure out what taste is when you look at how interconnected Sinnoh or Unova were, when map design came back.

The gen 6 overworld doomed ORAS from the start, not only the routes feel more square-ish and clausthrophobic for some reason but the atmposphere turns from adventuring to the woods to a walk into the backyard

What breaks it for me is that they didn’t use the exact same color palette. I literally want a ORAS rom hack that does nothing more than fix the colors. They backpedalled too hard from the washed out pastels in XY and gave us Saturation 100% Hoenn...
