Even if BDSP are just 1:1 remakes with worse graphics, they will be better than the originals by default because they won't be as unbearably slow as the Gen IV games.

I didn't mind Gen IV being slow. Yeah, the battle system didn't necessarily need to be losing 1 HP every frame with a framerate of 30 (a 714 HP Blissey OHKO will take 24.667 seconds as the most egregious possible example only found in multiplayer), but the overall vibe of the game is one where you explore and take your time.

I played diamond on release and it wore me down to a point I skipped gen 5 out of poke fatigue and only played it years later

And? Gen I has one Ghost-type and one Dragon-type. Is it really, REALLY so important to have a Fire-type when there are 16 other types to choose from? I also played Diamond at release and I didn't even realize there were only two Fire lines until the post-game when I saw someone online point it out. That's how little it mattered to me.

You're talking to the wrong person here because I always had all HMs on my team so I could explore every area to its fullest. That's what I found the most fun. It's the same with using a Pokémon with Static in front to draw out wild Pikachu in the Trophy Garden so I have an easier way of getting a Light Ball to breed a Pichu with Volt Tackle. My team was always based on utility in interacting with the world because it's not like I've ever had to use type advantages to win something.

it's fine you enjoyed it, but DP pre Pt was pretty shit for most people
ghost or especially dragon being a bit rare, especially in gen 1, was somewhat intentional and rectified in later gens, while fire is a starter and one of the most basal types, to restrict something like that to post E4 (when almost all post E4 restrictions are loathsome, like gen 2) is ridiculously bad distribution
you enjoying restrictive movesets/mandatory bibarel is just weird, almost no one likes HMs for a reason

I'm mostly mad they have established they're not doing the definitive edition for their remakes.
For FR/LG that was fine, since Yellow wasnt exactly 'definitive', and with HG/SS. But ORAS suffered for not including the things in Emerald, and the same with be true for the gen 4 remakes.
I'm especially salty since platinum is my favorite game.

HGSS included Crystal’s storyline heavily with Suicune.
ORAS is the outlier. Cutting things here and there. A huge stepback from Johto remakes.
Seems like BDSP took it even further by just copy-pasting DP and not giving us something new and exciting.

So let me say this
>The purpose of HMs is to make roadblocks for the player that are tied to badge progression so that they do wander TOO far outside of their comfort zone. They also serve to make things more convenient (Fly, Flash, Defog, cutting tall grass, shortcuts, etc.), open up alternate paths (ie. Route 205's secondary path), and hide rewards for players who go go out of their way to accommodate HM users in their party.
>HMs have been replaced by a mixture of NPCs blocking progression and functions that the player always has access to.
>In terms of story progression, it is annoying to see mandatory Cut trees late in the game rather than as the initial roadblock. However, I feel like I have more agency in how I'm progressing when my goal is to acquire a specific HM. If my goal is forward progression, it is in my best interest to find HM01 Cut and beat Azalea Gym or to find HM03 Surf by beating the Kimono Girls and talking to the dance hall owner and beating the Ecruteak Gym. Even though they're technically required by the story, the game often gives you some leeway and makes you feel like you're doing things for the express purpose of clearing an obstacle, compared to say following the exact plot to a T in Sun and Moon where Tauros or Stoutland block you arbitrarily until the story wants you to go somewhere and railroads you there. As for areas that hide rewards based on bringing an HM, the obstacles become pointless inclusions if you always have the means to remove them, meaning there is no more purpose in including side areas as you progress.
