Difference is that Gou is based in Kanto and designed from scratch in PM Anime is most likely to stay on.
Unlike Gou, Serena is based on her game counterpart to represent Kalos in the anime and Gen 6. Therefore, when Gen 7 and Aloha were announced, the execs had to ditch her for SM characters (last ones to be based on their game counterparts) to promote Gen 7 and Aloha.

Yeah. It isn't a popular opinion, but I love that they gave him mainstream shillmons then just generational shillmons. It reminds me of when had Pikachu and the Kanto starters as his main stables. It just gives him more consistency and it feels a lot more organic IMO.

Journies Ash feels like a nice comprosimise between XY and SM Ash to me. He looks like a younger version of his XY self, battles like him, but is a bit more energetic and outgoing like his SM self without being too goofy. It's a nice mix.

That episode wasn't really about Aerodactyl. It was about Go, who showed how far he has grown since episode 2.

Most of Ash's personality from the OS honestly died down by the end of AG anyway. Even in DP he was too serious/mature a lot of the time, the same thing people accuse XY Ash of. Look at the way Ash sulks when he loses to Paul at the Lake in the 6 on 6 battle, he behaves just like XY Ash there.

You faggots forget one important detail: Iris isn't a protag girl re-written to be Satoshi's crush. She's a gym leader and then a champion in her own right, not a self-insert from the games turned into a waifu projection piece.

Yup. Every character that has returned so far has been an NPC. Also outside of the SM kids, they have been reworked to be more in line with their game counterparts. Even Gary is similar to HGSS/GS Blue, who while a gym leader was also a traveling trainer. We will see with the next opening. But if Dawn isn't in it, then I am pretty sure her and the other two won't show up again.

Considering Dawn's game incarnation is a blank slate, it's very easy to use Dawn in a similar manner. Dawn does contests in the games if you play as her with a contest dress, etc.

May was different in the games because she could be Prof. Birch's daughter instead of Norman's depending if you play as her or not, and her family moved from Johto. This was all changed in the anime and they just made her Norman's daughter. Not to mention the anime creating Max as her brother when he doesn't exist in the games.

Also in the games, Brendan is a major part of May's development and vice versa. Since Brendan wasn't introduced in AG, May lost that connection to her game counterpart. In ORAS especially they basically make Brendan and May's crush on each other very blatant, May is crushing on you the whole game if you play as Brendan. It's one of the things I liked about ORAS.

If they got more screentime they'd be interesting. His Pokemon actually do have good personalities this gen. Dragonite is sweet and caring, Gengar is mischievous, Lucario is...well a Lucario, Sir'fetch'd is proud, and Dracovish is fun and bites Ash's head.

They have just as much personality quirks as Ash's past pokemon, it's just they barely appear in most episodes to show it off.

I think Pokemon trying to be like "Gundam Build Fighter" which also had duel protagonist and was a surprise hit . Probably because it had everything people wanted such as well animated fights, shipping, humour, rivalry, competitions and prettier female characters.

Besides Gou isn't a Galar Region Representative nor is he a Gen 8 game character.
Of course, Gou may have gotten his 1st starter from Galar instead of a typical Kanto starter, but that is only because Gen 8 is the current gen. Therefore the execs gave Gou Galar starters to market the Gen 8 starter mons ONLY without needing Gou to do so.

That was last time when Pokemon Anime was region-locked from AG-SM.
PM has since changed the execs' stance given its multi-region format, formula and direction PM is going.

Tell me about the formula and direction, because it is as inconsistent as the art. If you ask me, they should have made this series without Ash and have a more traditional run alongside it including Ash. This is just trying to include everything in a 24 minute timeframe and it is a mess.
